What is Acai Berry Juice
You may have heard some of the acai hype and you're wondering, what is acai berry all about? And what’s berry juice, exactly?
The acai (pronounced, “ah-sigh-ee”) berry is a small berry found only in the rainforest of South America. It is smaller and darker than a blueberry, but packs a lot more nutrients and twice as many antioxidants. Although the acai berry has been around for thousands of years, it is relatively new to the western world and the health industry as a whole.
Since this old berry is a relatively “new” discovery, there are a lot theories as to the health benefits of acai berry; however, it is important to remember that the FDA does not endorse any such theories. The true benefits of acai have yet to be determined; however, there are a few facts about this amazing little berry that can not be disputed.
Acai Berry Facts: - The acai berry contains a high concentration of antioxidants, omega fatty acids, amino acids, fiber, and nutrients.
- It contains 10-30 times the anthocyanin found in red wine, which is what is believed to counterbalance high cholesterol and fatty foods.
- It contains a substance that closely resembles olive oil, which is believed to be an important cause of healthy hearts and low cholesterol in Mediterranean populations.
Acai Berry Products: Of course, as with any new discovery, there are plenty of products vying for consumer dollars. It is important to do your research and make sure that you are buying the real thing. Some scam artists have even been caught mixing baking powder and other powders with food coloring, and selling it as acai powder; so be cautious, do your research, and only buy from reputable sources.
The acai berry itself is extremely perishable; it only lasts about 24 hours from the time it was picked. Therefore, if you are anywhere other than Brazil, you will not get it in berry form. Here in North America, acai can come in three forms:
What is Acai Berry Juice? Acai berry fruit juice is one of the most common ways to get acai. It is a little thicker than your typical fruit juice, but it only takes 2-4 ounces to get your required nutrients each day. It is best, if possible, to buy 100% pure acai juice; but many people find the taste is less than ideal. Many products mix acai juice with the juice of other healthy fruits, to increase the health benefits as well as to improve the taste.
However, try to find a juice that contains the highest percentage possible of acai juice; at least 90%. Anything less than that, and you might not be getting enough pure acai in your daily diet to experience the benefits.
So now that you know what is acai berry juice is good for, you can try it for yourself and see how it might benefit you!
