So you’re interested in acai, but you’re wondering what the side effects of acai might be. Congratulations of being smart enough to do some research and wanting to know more about the risks as well as the health benefits of acai before jumping on the bandwagon!

If you’re reading this article, you most likely have already heard the potential benefits of acai. Some people believe, based upon the healthy nutrients that are jam-packed into the acai berry, that the acai berry could possibly be one of the healthiest foods in the world. However, it's natural when you hear about a food that seems “too good to be true” to wonder, what’s the catch? What are the risks? And, most importantly, what are the side effects of acai?

Although research on the acai berry is still new, as of now there aren’t any known side effects of acai; but research is still being conducted. However, there most likely will not be any side effects to be discovered, because there most likely aren’t any. It helps to look at it this way; as long as you consume the purest form of acai you can find, then you are really just consuming fruit. You wouldn't ask if there are any “side effects” to eating a banana or blueberries; and since acai is a fruit, it's the same thing.

There are two scenarios in which a concern about side effects would be logical:

Just as with any food, there is potential for allergic reactions to acai.  Be sure to seek immediate medical attention if you develop any signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

      • Hives, itching, or sudden rash
      • Swelling of the throat
      • Wheezing or other difficulty breathing

If you consume anything other than a product that is made mostly of pure acai berry. There are a lot of products that label themselves as acai products; but in reality are scams and are only trying to take your money. In this case, you greatly increase your chances of side effects; because you are not really consuming pure acai and really don't know exactly what you are consuming.

So, just about anyone can benefit from adding acai to your daily routine. One of the easiest ways to enjoy the health benefits of acai berry is to start off your day with it. Acai can be used to make a healthy breakfast smoothie or frozen fruit smoothies to be enjoyed any time of the day. In this way, acai can be a new addition to your definition of wellness and your daily routine.


Make sure that you buy only reputable products (preferably organic) that contain only (or mostly) pure acai. Then your only side effects of acai will be a healthier diet and improved lifestyle!
