Diet Smoothies Guide

One of the latest diet trends is to drink diet smoothies in place of a meal. This can be extremely effective in helping you reach your weight loss goals; if you do it right!

Diet smoothies are quick and easy to make at home; and can easily be put into a cup to take with you if you’re always on the go. They are filling, and can be very nutritious; and if made correctly, they can be the perfect solution for busy people trying to lose weight!

There is, of course, a catch: you must use the right recipes to truly make weight loss smoothies a successful part of your diet. Here are a few tips to ensure your diet smoothie remains “diet:”

    • Search for “diet smoothie recipes” or “healthy smoothie recipes” on the internet or in health magazines or cookbooks.
    • If the recipe calls for milk, be sure to use skim or non-fat milk.
    • If the recipe calls for yogurt, be sure to use low-fat yogurt.
    • If you’re lactose intolerant, you can substitute the milk with soy or almond milk and leave out the yogurt; or skip the dairy altogether.
    • Don’t use frozen or canned fruits; packaged fruits use added sugar or high fructose corn syrup, which increases the calories. If the recipe calls for frozen fruit, simply use fresh fruit and add ice (or use fresh fruit and freeze it yourself). Believe it or not, you can make perfectly good frozen fruit smoothies using nothing but fruit and ice!

    However, there is a “secret ingredient” that you can add to any smoothie recipe to give it extra weight-loss power: and that is acai berry.

    If you’ve never heard of acai berry, then it’s about time you did! The acai berry is a small fruit that looks similar to a blueberry, except it’s a darker purple color. It has made quite a splash in the health industry, because it has some pretty remarkable traits. It has twice the antioxidants of blueberries, and a high concentration of fiber, protein, beta-sitosterol, Omegas 3, 6, and 9, amino acids, and vitamins and minerals.

    However, acai only grows in the Amazon rainforest; and since it spoils within 24 hours of being picked, anyone outside of Brazil is unlikely to find fresh acai berries at their local market. Instead, we must enjoy our acai in other forms; mainly acai powder, acai berry supplements, or acai juice.
