Acai Supplements: Not All Acai is the Same
In today’s world of “information overload,” it’s difficult to know which acai supplements are the best for you.
The first and most important step is to realize that not all products and supplements are the same. As the matter of fact, there are a few very important factors that make all the difference in whether you can enjoy the benefits of acai. If the product you choose skimps in any of these areas, than you have wasted your money and will never be able to reap the health benefits of acai berry.
Here are some things to look for in your acai supplements:
Make sure it uses freeze-dried acai. The berry only grows in the Amazon rainforest, and is extremely perishable; it spoils within 24 hours of being harvested. Therefore, unless you live in or are visiting the outskirts of the Amazon in Brazil, you are not likely to ever see a true acai berry. The rest of the world has to enjoy our fruit in other forms; juices, powders, and supplements.
So how does this simple berry turn into an acai supplement? The berry has to be processed in one of two ways: in which the berries are either spray-dried or freeze-dried. The spray-drying method is easier and cheaper; however it uses a process that literally cooks the nutrients and antioxidants right out. This renders the berry pretty much useless, since the entire point of consuming the berry is for its amazing health benefits.
The other process, known as freeze-drying, is a bit more complicated, but retains and preserves all of the nutrients and antioxidants of the original berry. It is absolutely imperative that you research to make sure your berry products uses freeze-dried berry fruit.
Make sure it uses high quality, organic acai. Since the berries are processed before we ever see them, many unethical companies use low quality or highly processed (and therefore cheaper) berries. As with anything, the fresher the berries, the better they are for you. Also, organic berries are the best acai; it makes little sense to use chemically-processed antioxidant products.
The ingredients contain mostly acai in the product. There are supplements on the market today that have been found to have less than 1-5% of actual berry fruit in the product. However, since the berry industry is so new and still being developed, there aren’t yet any regulations or set guidelines to adhere to. Therefore, just about anyone can slap together a product with a trace of berry fruit, and call it an acai supplement. The supplements with useless “filler” will not give you the required amount of berry you need every day to be beneficial; so steer clear of them.
So which product meets these criteria? It takes time to research each acai berry product; and so we’ve done some of the research for you. Our top recommended products that fits each of these criteria are Mona vie and Sambazon. Sambazon uses pure organic freeze-dried acai, its products contain mostly berry fruit in the ingredients, and they have two options for acai supplements; berry capsules or powder. Stick with Sambazon for your acai needs, and you simply can’t go wrong.
