Are There Any Acai Side Effects?
You may have heard of the benefits of acai; but wonder are there any acai side effects?
If you're reading this article, then chances are you've at least heard of the acai berry and want to learn more. Maybe you've heard some of the miraculous claims of the health benefits of acai, and want to see if they are true. Or, you already know the positive facts about acai, but are curious if there are any negative acai side effects.
First of all, when filtering through acai berry information, it's important to make a distinction between fact and fiction. Remember that the acai berry was only recently “discovered” by the western world; and there is still a lot of research on this berry to be done before anything is proven.
There are a lot of products out there promising the world in order to sell their product; and it's important to separate fact from marketing hype. Many acai berry products promise everything from rapid weight loss to prevention of cancer; in addition to increased energy, lower cholesterol, clearer skin, and better sleep.
While these claims have not been proven, it's difficult to deny the acai fruit nutrition facts; that the acai berry is a very healthy little fruit. Similar to the blueberry in size and color, it holds at least two times the antioxidants; and also contains a lot of fiber, fatty acids, amino acids, and nutrients.
However, it's natural when you hear about a food that seems “too good to be true” to wonder, what's the catch? Is it all hype? And most importantly, what are the side effects?
As of now, there have not been any known acai side effects reported; although research is still being conducted. However, it helps to look at it this way; as long as you consume the purest form of acai you can find, then you are really just consuming fruit. You wouldn't ask if there are any “side effects” to eating an apple or an orange; and since acai is a fruit, it's the same thing.
There are two exceptions to this, which could cause concern of any acai side effects: - Just as with any food, the potential for allergic reactions to acai. Be sure to seek immediate medical attention if you develop any signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- Hives, itching, or a sudden rash
- Swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue, or throat
- Wheezing or other difficulty breathing
- If you consume anything other than a product that is made mostly of pure acai berry. There are a lot of products that label themselves as acai products; but in reality are fake and only trying to take your money. There have been reports of certain acai berry supplements and acai powder products that contain only 1% of acai; the rest is “filler” and unknown ingredients. In this case, you greatly increase your chances of side effects; because you are not really consuming pure acai and really don't know exactly what you are consuming.
Basically, as long as you are cautious about what you are buying and ensure that you are buying reputable products made of pure acai, then you most likely will not experience any negative acai side effects. The only “side effect” will be a healthier diet and more nutrition from a very nutritious fruit.
